Worshiping Jesus is one of the best things you can do with your time. Now, when I say “worship,” what comes into your mind? Music I’d imagine. Am I right?
What if I told you that music, while a valid form of worship, is just one way to worship Jesus, but that there is another way that I’d argue is even better?
Let’s talk about worship today.
Meaning and History of ‘Worship.’
Often, in the bible, the word worship means “to bow down.” That is, to lower yourself so that your face is touching the ground, facing someone or something.
However, the word has taken on a different meaning through the centuries.
From what I can gather, the word ‘worship’ comes from the word ‘worth-ship,’ which means to ‘ascribe or assign worth to someone or something.’
So when you worship the Lord Jesus, you are ‘giving’ Him ‘worth.’
Ascribe means to ‘attribute something to something else.’ So to ascribe Jesus worth is to attribute worth to Jesus.
Benefits of Worship
Now, before I get into the way to worship the Lord Jesus which He showed me, I want to first discuss the benefits of worshiping the Lord.
First and foremost, worshiping the Lord is the backbone of having a relationship with Him. It will quickly set you apart in His eyes. A child that will take time out of his or her day to worship the Lord will quickly become special in the eyes of Jesus.
The issue of worship is what all of this – the world, Christianity, and everything – is about.
We share the gospel with others so that they may become worshipers of the Lord.
We pray for other’s to be saved, and for the church to grow, so that more people will worship the Lord.
We study and teach the bible so that people will become better worshipers of the Lord.
The entire battle of good versus evil is centered around the issue of worship. The devil hates worship, while God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ seek worship.
Now, one final thing, is that worshiping the Lord Jesus is one way to earn treasures in heaven, if that is something you seek.
A Good Way to Worship
Now, let’s talk about the best way to worship the Lord.
It is rather simple. It is not a mystery, nor is it hard to understand. It is not rocket science.
This form of worship, what I would argue is the best and highest form of worship, is to repeat back to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ who He is.
“Repeat back to Him who He is? What does that mean?” You might ask.
What I’m referring to is the attributes of God. That is who He is.
An attribute is a characteristic or trait of something or someone. So, the Lord’s attributes is simply who He is as God.
To worship the Lord is to repeat back to Him His attributes. I like to mix in words of love and affection.
Attributes of God
Here is a post about the attributes of God, however, I will list a few below. I’m sure you’ve heard of some of them before.
For example, one of the Lord’s attributes is that He is all-knowing.
So, to use this attribute to worship the Lord, you can say something like this:
God is All-Knowing
“Lord Jesus, You are the all-knowing God, and I love You.”
“God the Father, You know all things, and I adore You.”
“Lord Jesus, You have perfect understanding of everything, and I cherish You.”
See? It’s not so hard. It takes a little effort, a little practice, and a little study, and you can begin to worship the Lord with the best.
God is All-Powerful
The Lord is all-powerful. So here is another example:
“Jesus my Lord, You are all-powerful. You have unlimited strength and power, and I love You.”
“God the Father, You are the infinitely powerful maker of the universe, and I appreciate You.”
“Jesus my God, You have all power, and nothing is too hard for You. I adore You, Lord.”
See? With a little practice, study, and effort, you can start to create your own prayers of worship.
Feel free to use my examples to get started. Tweak and adjust them as you want. Feel free to try different things.
Conclusion
I also recommend, again, reading my attributes of God article.
Study the attributes of God, and learn to repeat them back to Him with words of love. That is pure and true worship, my brothers and sisters in Christ.
God bless you all!
